Looking for the traditional recipe for apple crumble but with a different touch? Here it is! And the change we did is very simple: in this version, besides apples, we are filling the crumble with pears. 

Once you start trying other fillings, you will discover that crumble can have infinite combinations. In this recipe, we aromatized the apples and pears with cinnamon. What will be the next one? What delicious combinations have you tried?

Ingredients

Fruit Filling

  • 3 golden apples, peeled, cored and diced
  • 3 pears, peeled, cored and diced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Crumble

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 6 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Directions

Apple Pear Crumble

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°.
  2. Cover a 8 x 8 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together apples, pears, sugar, lemon juice, flour, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Pour into the baking pan.
  5. In the same bowl, mix together all the ingredients for the crumble. Using your hands, add in the butter until large crumbs form.
  6. Lightly sprinkle the crumbs on top of the fruit.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Take foil off and cook for another 10 minutes.
  8. Let sit for at least 30 minutes before serving.
